Big Changes Are Coming Soon!

Big changes are coming soon to my website.  I will be shifting away from the recipes (a little bit) and focusing (a little bit) more on quilts.  My hope is to start making available to you some patterns that I have developed (some free, some not).  Quilting isn’t just for cooler months.  We have to prepare for the cooler months ahead of time and summer is the ideal time to take a class or learn a new process.  In fact, soon I will be taking a class on paper piecing.  I have a quilt kit that is a Mariners Compass that I purchased 20 years ago.  It’s paper pieced and I always thought “Oh, I can figure this out” but never made the effort.  So, I’m now going to learn the skill needed to do this.  I understand it is very easy and I’m sure I could learn it from videos but it’s always fun to get together with like-minded people and socialize while learning something new.  I’ll let you know how it goes.

Here are some quilts I have been working on this year. Some were a challenge, some were super simple.  Let me know what you think.

Sometimes the best quilts are the simple ones.  This one I call “Vineyard Window”.  It isn’t a traditional “window” quilt because the sashing isn’t dimensional but I love how simple it is.  No fussing, just blocks set in easy sashing and borders.  I love how the bronze border pulls the browns and olive colors from the main fabric.  This is an example of finding the perfect fabric that I just had to have when I was at the quilt store then using the app I recently told you about to figure out how much I needed for the border.  The size of this quilts is 59 x 73 – perfect for a cool night by the fire pit.

This quilt was a new experience.  It’s called “Cathedral Windows” (I have a window theme going evidently) and was a challenge given to me by a friend.  She said “See this quilt?”, I said “Yes”, she said “Go make it”.  Well, never one to back down from a challenge I set off to make this quilt – with curves(!!!).  But I fooled her by having it done in just two days.  You can find the instructions on “You Tube” – the block is called “10 minute block” and it goes just that fast.  I certainly expected this to be a difficult one to make.  Look at the inserts!  But it was so easy and the blocks measure 20 inches when finished so it goes really fast.

I’m custom quilting it in order to emphasize the curved windows.

Well, I have a few more to share with you but I’ll save them for another time.  I need to get going, I have another idea for a quilt floating around in my head and I need to get it out, onto paper, and into fabric.  Enjoy!
