Dress Up Any Pie With The Addition of Bourbon Caramel Sauce
Bourbon Caramel Sauce will dress up any pie and make it something special. Same goes for plain old vanilla ice cream or your afternoon cup of coffee. Caramel sauce is super easy to make, in fact, after you see the instructions, you are going to say “Wow, that easy?”. Don’t like bourbon? Then trade it out for vanilla paste or extract, mint extract, cinnamon, orange, etc. What ever flavor your prefer or none at all – just the delicious, decadent flavor of caramel.
Bourbon Caramel Sauce
1 1/2 c water
1 1/2 c sugar
1 T corn syrup
Combine everything in a medium sauce pan and place on high heat. Do Not Stir!!
Heat until the syrup turns a nice amber color. The darker the color, the heavier the flavor of caramel.
When you have reached the color of caramel you like, add:
1/3 c heavy cream
and whisk to combine. Be careful, the cold cream will cause a large amount of steam.
You may need to add additional cream to reach the consistency you like. Then add the flavor or the bourbon (if you want anything other than caramel) and whisk to combine. Set aside to cool. Check the consistency and adjust if needed with additional cream. Place in a food safe squeeze bottle and keep in the refrigerator. Just place in a cup of hot tap water to get it to a liquid consistency when ever want to use it.
