I love Chai Tea but I don’t enjoy the funny taste that comes from the Chai Tea concentrates that are available in the grocery store. I just want to know what is in my food and I don’t want it full of artificial flavors or preservatives. This Chai Tea recipe is full of natural products that you have in your kitchen right now. I love to mix up a pot on cold, blustery days and just sit back by the fireplace and work on a quilt while I enjoy a cup or two.
This recipe makes a teapot full.
Chai Tea
3 c. water
16 cardamom pods, crushed
1 1/3 c milk
1 T raw sugar
1 T loose black tea (I prefer gunpowder tea but use your favorite)
Pour the water in a sauce pan and add the tea, cardamom, and cinnamon stick. Turn on medium heat and let simmer for about 10 minutes. Add the milk and sugar and allow to return to a simmer. Strain the tea, cinnamon, and cardamom out and place the tea in a pot. Serve immediately. Makes about 4 cups.
