2008 Chateau St. Jean, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma County
2008 Chateau St. Jean Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma County, $25
I purchased this bottle of 2008 Chateau St. Jean Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma County a few weeks ago with the intention of serving it with something Italian. Tonight’s Zucchini Lasagna was the perfect opportunity. From the moment I opened this wine I couldn’t wait to taste it. You see, I have the habit of sniffing each and every bottle of wine I open immediately upon opening. I don’t know why, maybe it is just to make sure it hasn’t turned to vinegar or something. When I sniffed this one, the aroma was so enticing I couldn’t wait to taste it. This Chateau St. Jean smelled of juicy blackberry’s and jammy fruits.
Upon pouring a glass I was treated to delicious flavors of vanilla and oak. This well-balanced wine has a very soft mouth feel and a slight silkiness that I believe will improve with another year or two of cellaring. In a word, unbelievably delicious. Ok, that was two but you get what I mean.
4 out of 5 stars. I am going to buy more of this and try it again in a year or so just to see how the flavors mature with aging. I love that this wine is only $25. Hopefully, they still have some (bottles at the store I mean)!
