Pastry – Jalousie or Butter Braid

This is a great pastry to have at the ready in your freezer when unexpected guests arrive.  It is beautiful to look at and tasty as can be.  Serve for breakfast, brunch, or with ice cream for a dessert.

1 recipe Flakey Puff Pastry

Fresh fruit of your choice

1 egg lightly beaten with 1 T water

Roll out the puff pastry dough as thin as you can and cut a piece 12 inch wide.  Lightly score the piece two times at the 4 inch mark and the 8 inch mark.  Cut diagonal strips from each edge to the score mark.  Place your fresh fruit down the center.

Fold the diagonally cut strips over the fruit alternating sides until you are finished.

At this point, you can freeze it then wrap in plastic wrap and return to the freezer for later use or brush with the egg/water solution and bake in a 425 degree oven for 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
