Meatballs in Red Wine Sauce

These meatballs are so delicious.  I have served them as an appetizer at parties as well as for a main course.  Just add a salad, pasta, bread, and wine and you are set.  The sauce is very easy and you can add any flavors you or your family like.  Feel free to experiment!

Meatballs with Red Wine Sauce

Meatballs in Red Wine Sauce

Meatballs, your favorite recipe or pre-made from the grocery store

1 large can fire roasted diced tomatoes

1 can tomato sauce

3 cloves garlic, finely minced

4 green onions, minced

1 t thyme or a medium sprig of fresh thyme

1 bay leaf

1/4 t oregano

1 t basil

1 1/2 c. red wine

In a sauce pan, sauté the garlic until fragrant, then all the rest of the ingredients except the meatballs.  Simmer for 1 hour.  Add the meatballs to the sauce and continue to simmer until the meatballs are hot all the way through.  Serve with freshly grated parmesan cheese.
